Job Description


Lead a cross-functional, product-focused team revolutionizing marketing insights for the Technology and Consumer durables industry

Being the visible leader for Data Science in our London Data Science Hub

Be current with the latest trends in industry and academia and always look to implement novel ideas in GfK’s predictive analytics solutions

Being the subject matter expert on machine learning methods, statistical approaches and data science domains

Leading the development of Data Science solutions for implementation

Establish GfK's Data Science capabilities in client-facing situations, at industry conferences and in workshops, submitting research papers to relevant journals

Foster a culture of excellence and continuous learning and improvement by sharing knowledge within the Technology and Data network


Managing a team of highly skilled Data Scientists in London whilst also guiding them, providing direction to their analysis and helping them ask the right questions

Working closely with Stakeholders (including CTO and CPO) discussing Data Science Concepts and plans, building confidence, increasing buy-in approaches, deliverables and timescales.

Work closely with Data Science Leads, engineering and product managers to translate business use cases to data science problems and rapidly prototyping solutions and delivering to production

Setup/contribute to a framework of best practices in the area of Data Sciences

Develop and implement data science and machine learning models in proof-of-concepts, prototypes and projects

Support in the development of talent and organization of required training

3          Qualifications

Master's degree in Computer Science/Statistics/Econometrics, or related field with a quantitative focus (Mathematics/Physics)

8+ years of professional experience in quantitative data analysis/ data science or related areas

Strong Stakeholder management and leadership capabilities

Mathematical thinking, strong analytical and problem solving skills, self-motivated, organized team player

Ability to translate and clearly communicate sophisticated analytical information to none-expert stakeholders and clients

Experience managing Data Science and cross-functional teams as well as working with several stakeholders

Experience in and/or strong interest in analytics in the (digital) Marketing field (pricing/promotion optimization, product optimization, category management, Customer Lifetime Value modeling, sales forecasting, audience profiling etc.) would be a plus

Expert modeling skills and statistics knowledge is essential (machine learning, deep learning, econometric modeling)

Experience visualizing and communicating data with the ability to think beyond the numbers while addressing real-world business problems

Expert programming skills in Python or R with high level of familiarity with Big Data tools (Spark, Hive etc.) and the respective tool ecosystem (e.g., R-Studio Server, Zeppelin, Jupyter)

Solid understanding of AI (i.e., principles, tools, areas of application)

Proven project management and client-facing skills
