Map of the Month: GfK Purchasing Power, Germany 2023

GfK's Map of the Month for January shows the projected distribution of purchasing power in Germany in 2023.

According to GfK's latest purchasing power study, Germans will have €26,271 per person for consumer purchases, living expenses, recreation and saving in 2023. This is a nominal per-person increase of 3.3 percent or €842 over the revised forecasted value from last year. However, the increase in purchasing power will not be able to compensate for the high inflation rate. 

The amount of purchasing power available to consumers differs widely from region to region: With €36,866 per person, inhabitants of the Bavarian district of Starnberg have 40 percent more purchasing power than the national average, followed by the rural districts of Munich (€35,326) and Ebersberg (€33,865).
