GfK spins out Genius Digital’s Subscriber Intelligence Business
- After the spin-out, GfK will continue to grow its return path data “RPD” panel business, recruiting and managing subscriber panels to provide broadcasters and operators with actionable insights about their customers and prospects
- Following the spin out, Genius Digital will focus on deploying its software to broadcasters and operators worldwide, providing subscribers the best business intelligence, as analytics, targeting, and packaging based on viewing data
Genius Digital has been bought back fully by its founders, Jonathan Sykes and Tom Weiss, from GfK, its previous majority shareholders.
The deal sees GfK Media Measurement retain Genius Digital’s powerful return path data panel business and analytics capabilities, which has grown substantially under GfK’s ownership.
“The spin-off of Genius Digital from GfK enables both companies to focus on their major strengths. While GfK will continue to utilize the company’s technology and experience for return path data panels, Genius Digital will be free to concentrate on enabling broadcasters and operators to be more profitable using subscriber intelligence software solutions,” says Michal Galin, GfK Global Product Head, Return Path Data.
Tom Weiss, who will continue as CEO of Genius Digital, commented: “The spin-out of Genius Digital from GfK makes perfect sense for both parties. We get to focus on ‘big data’ technology and services that optimize content monetization and business growth of broadcasters and operators. Meanwhile, GfK will be able to continue to use the technology we jointly developed to augment its audience measurement business. ”
“Our next steps will be to accelerate our regional expansion, product roadmap rollout and sales operation to grow our already impressive roster of tier-1 operator customers,” concluded Weiss.
The spun-off Genius Digital will retain around 50 staff globally.
