Northland Commercial Radio Audience Measurement

Survey 1 – 2016

Auckland, November 10, 2016 – Results of the Northland 2016 Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Survey 1 conducted by GfK were released today at 1pm.

Department of Statistics estimated population data at 30 June 2015 indicates approximately 118,000 people aged 10+ years usually live in the Northland survey area used for the Commercial Radio Audience Measurement Survey. Of these, 71.8% listen to a commercial radio station each week.

The survey, conducted over 36 weeks and sampling 834 people aged 10+ years shows More FM has most commercial station listeners, with 21,600 different people tuning in each week. The Rock and The Edge had equal second highest with 20,700 different listeners. Coast has fourth highest commercial cumulative audience of 13,200, and Newstalk ZB is fifth highest with 10,900.

The highest commercial station market share was also achieved by More FM with a 13.5% share of all commercial radio listening. Second highest commercial share is The Edge with 12.3%, followed by Coast with 11.9%. Fourth highest commercial share is Newstalk ZB with 11.4%, and The Rock has fifth highest with 11.1%.

Breakfast results (Mon-Fri 6am-9am) show More FM with the highest share; 17.3% of commercial radio breakfast listening, followed by Newstalk ZB with 13.6%. The Rock is third with 11% share of commercial radio breakfast listening, followed by The Edge on 9.9%, and Coast is fifth with 9%.
