An atypical year has meant that retailers and manufacturers alike have had to be quick to adapt their usual approach to Black Friday. Key trends that have emerged this year include: 

  • Slightly weaker Black Friday sales than last year
    However, compared to an average week, sales were strong with an increase of 128%
  • Earlier promotions than ever before
    Activity started in week 46 with three weeks accounting for a 5% sales growth versus last year
  • Premiumization remains with price cuts less extreme
    Only 33% of sales were made with a promotion greater than 15% versus 41% in 2019.
