Job Description

You are a python savvy data scientists who is used  to work in a cross-functional and agile team delivering small, incremental improvements through continuous delivery pipelines. Working alongside with you is a larger data science team  that will happily share their knowledge. But we are also keen to learn from your experience and skill-set.

As a data scientist you are also part of the Global Data science community,  50+ professionals in 3 countries. Most of them are located in Nuremberg and are ready to challenge and be challenged by your skill-set.

  • Own Data Science solutions for productive use in a cross-functional and agile team
  • Deeply understand the business question and the requirements and think in terms of end to end analytical approaches
  • Screen the market for potential new / innovative Data Science approaches
  • Actively share Data Science knowledge


  • Build/adapt Data Science and machine learning solutions throughout the full live-cycle (ideation, design, implementation, production and maintenance).
  • Regular communication with non-data scientists in Tech, Operations, Commercial, Product to, on the one hand, understand the domain and the requirements, and on the other hand, explain data science principles, concepts, algorithms, and approaches.
  • Create and improve methods and tools, and contribute to best practices in the area of Data Science.
  • Present GfK’s Data Sciences expertise at conferences and workshops.
  • Foster Data Science related knowledge exchange within GfK.
  • Support development of other team members.


  • Solid knowledge of Python and the respective tool ecosystem (Jupyter, Pycharm).
  • Knowledge of other analytic programming languages (e.g. R) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of serving machine learning models via microservice architecture is a plus.
  • Knowledge of PySpark is a plus.
  • Solid skills in working with relational database systems in particular querying data via SQL.
  • Solid skills in working with MongoDB is a plus.
  • Expert knowledge of machine learning in general especially supervised learning.
  • Solid skills in text classification and/or NLP is a big plus. 
  • Willingness to dive deep into the retailer data domain
  • Experience with retailer data is a big plus
  • Willingness to work in a cross-functional and agile environment
  • Ability to think creatively in addressing analytical objectives
  • Ability to fluidly communicate in an English business Environment
  • PhD or Master Degree that reflects strong modeling, statistics and IT skills.
  • Typically, 2+ years of work experience
