You’ll be passionate about users and driving the customer experience but also pragmatic, able to adapt to new information and make decisions, fast. To succeed in this role requires deep domain expertise combined with strong leadership and stakeholder management skills. Experience with corporate transformation initiatives would be a plus as you’ll be helping to drive and establish the data visualisation frameworks and processes that will enable our team to thrive and effectively collaborate with Product, Tech and Data Science teams.
You’ll be joining a talented team of inhouse designers, based largely across UK and Germany, as well as working alongside external agencies and partners. We’re designing the AI enabled product ecosystem that will become the growth engine for GfK – and our design team is critical to realizing this transformation.

In this role you will play a critical role in delivering best in class data visualisations for our users so they can get the information they need to make better and faster decisions. This is a senior leadership role in our team however initially you will be working independently, rather than leading a team.
You will work in a highly collaborative manner with design, product and engineering to create frameworks, standards, principles and governance around data visualisation across our client platform. You will be the expert in how to create ‘signal from noise’ and empower our teams to identify the most effective visualisations tools and techniques for our users.
You’ll be expected to proactively drive execution and contribute to development of product design strategy within your area of responsibility to deliver value, meet objectives and achieve metrics.
Responsibilities (including, but not limited to)
Develop frameworks, principles, training and governance around data visualisation to improve speed and quality of designs / user feedback
Work with developers and designers to increase reusable components and identify appropriate libraries and tools to accelerate design/delivery
Partner with other leaders to develop a rigorous and effective UX framework, processes and ways of working, with a focus on data visualisation and design system
Advocate for and embed the design system/data visualisation framework across the platform portfolio – supporting designers and engineers across different products and collaborating where the system doesn't meet their needs
Provide advice and consulting for designers, product managers and engineers to identify the best solutions for their user problems
Improve capabilities of the org through mentoring and development of design and non-design team members
Build relationships with stakeholders across design, product, data science and engineering, ensuring design has a strong representation in key product decisions
Proactively identify and act on opportunities for improvements to designs, frameworks and the experience for our users across the end-to-end platform experience
Raise profile of design team and strategic value of work through clear, concise and accurate communication, presentations of outputs and engagement in org activity
Expected experience and skills
7+ years of experience in all aspects of UX/UI design
Extensive experience in designing data visualisations, dashboards and storytelling through data (must be able to demonstrate this with portfolio of work)
Knowledge of standard charts, dashboard best practices and experience with popular charting libraries
Advanced knowledge of user-centred design (UCD), planning and conducting user research, user testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, heuristic analysis, usability and accessibility
Experience collaborating closely with developers, and able to speak their language
Experience designing for SaaS platforms, B2B and/or enterprise products
Demonstrated experience proving designs, hypotheses and recommendations through use of data or validated evidence, and providing commercial rationale for decisions
Advanced competency with common Design software for the creation of artefacts and presentations, proactively seeking new tools and skills
Advanced presentation and facilitation skills, able to present ideas/concepts to stakeholders with clarity and confidence
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to clearly articulate concepts, ideas and requirements so they are understood by Technical & Non-Technical teams
Experience leading teams – managing workload, performance and processes (preferred but not essential)
Direct experience working inhouse as part of a corporate transformation initiative (preferred but not essential)
