You are a passionate software engineer who knows the ins and outs of software engineering and how it fits the broader SDLC. Modelling the world, thinking in terms of design patterns, object-oriented design, functional programming, test driven development are your second nature. You have written several applications from scratch and many are still in production to the delight of their users. You enjoy working in a team of likeminded professionals and keen to provide feedback on other's code as well as act on feedback received on yours. You are used to working in agile teams delivering small, incremental improvements through continuous delivery pipelines. You are proud of the quality, security and robustness of the code you write, and because you write your code with an in depth understanding of the execution environment these qualities translate to the systems
you implement as well.
As a Front-end Software Engineer you will have the following key accountabilities:
Deliver modular and maintainable projects that follows modern design decisions
Freedom to come up with your own solutions and advice on user experience and design
Be creative and provide advice and offer solutions according to best practices
Be proactive and contribute to iteration reviews, team meetings, work on impediments etc.
Support the Lead, Architects and Project Manager, communicate project risks
Actively improve your skills
Now that you know what a Front-end Software Engineer does, what skills, qualifications and experience do you need?
HTML: everything from basic markup, templating engines to HTML5 features
CSS: includes the native style sheets language as much as the preprocessing languages, such as SASS
Understanding (without necessarily in-depth technical competence) of the building blocks that are required for building a front-end application:
Project architecture, planning, and task management
Version control (git and its various repository systems)
Security (XSS, SQL Injection, html sanitization)
Building for different environments, server configuration, bundling (webpack, docker, k8s)
Frameworks: be familiar with current trends in front-end frameworks (React, Vue, Angular), tools, and processes, but should retain respect for underlying technologies and be competent in coding standard solutions without the help of libraries. The first project assignment will be focused on Angular
UX: to be able to tailor the user experience to the execution environment of their application (browser, mobile, etc.). This includes layout responsiveness, accessibility features, mature look & feel of the UI
Confidence to make a meaningful contribution to the development process, making decisions autonomously, and driving projects where appropriate
A positive attitude to learning from others, and a recognition that supervision will likely be required for more technical tasks. Ability to thrive in a pair programming context
Understanding of how their contribution can be leveraged to influence the wider organisation outside their team
Excellent command of English
