Job Description

As a Data Engineer you will play a role in bringing new (data) products, features and capabilities to market working alongside product management and operations teams

What you are able to

  • Work collaboratively with a Technical Business Analyst to design solutions to identified user issues and needs.

  • Write clean code that follows coding standards.

  • Work with other senior team members to identify, plan, develop and deliver data services.

  • Implement data flows to connect operational systems, data for analytics and business intelligence.

Skills

  • Programming and build. You can collaborate with others to understand and review software/user requirements. You can design, code, test, correct and document the appropriate solutions.

  • User focus. You seek to understand the needs of the user and devise the simplest solution to solve that business need.

  • Database/Data Warehouse Skillset. You are confident with writing Stored Procedures and Data Modelling design including 3NF and Dimensional modelling

  • Communicating information. You are able to listen to the needs of the users and business stakeholders and interpret information. You are able to contribute to discussions within the multidisciplinary team.

  • Leadership and guidance. You are able to follow agreed good practice for the team. You have an awareness of the importance of team dynamics and collaboration and understand the importance of feedback

  • Community collaboration. You can contribute to the work of others while having the ability to motivate and empower teams. You can recognise and deal with issues.

Experience

  • 3+ years of experience working in Database development and/or Data Warehouse development

  • Advanced SQL including Stored Procedures development

  • Strong Data Analysis skills including Excel expertise

  • Confident with version control systems and code reviews

Technologies required

  • Cloud Data Warehouse - Snowflake (ideal) otherwise BigQuery, RedShift or similar and/or strong SQL Server experience

Nice to have

  • DAX, SSAS, Power BI

  • Intermediate+ in one of Python (ideal), Java or Scala

  • Javascript, C#

  • TDD, Automated testing, Unit testing (ideally in a database environment)

  • Experience implementing Quality Check solutions

  • Serverless functions (eg. Lambda) and Event-driven pipelines

  • Terraform, git, Docker, CI/CD pipeline tools
