About your future team
GfK is providing a solution to measure consumption of digital advertisements and content, including news, video, audio streams. You are responsible to enable GfK’s clients to integrate the required measurement SDKs into their apps and websites. While doing your job you will automatically learn a lot about GfK’s measurement solution, which is a fully cloud-based, highly scalable, high traffic and big data application. This wider knowledge base willhelp you to perform your job in a self-organized manner and to analyse complex issues independently.
You are a seasoned software engineer passionate about building functional and performant mobile SDKs that delight their users. You understand how native and hybrid mobile applications are built, delivered to and execute their code on iOS and Android. You build Android and iOS code with software engineering best practices and have effectively scaled these practices to the size of an engineering team. You are obsessed about the quality and usability of your SDK, you see writing automated acceptance tests as an inseparable part of feature development. You follow the technology trends within mobile software development, know of the framework of the month but have learned to write code that stands the test of time. You have used various compilers and packagers, you know and have used in the past some of these tools and languages: Java for Android, Swift, Xcode, Gradle, Cocoapods, GitHub.
Mission of the role
You will be a pivotal member of our team and have the opportunity to build a robust Content Tracking SDK to be used by GfK's clients in order enable them knowing their audience and reach metrics.
You will be working as part of a cross functional agile team of a Big Data engineer, a SRE, Web SDK Developers, a Scrum Master and a Product Owner.
As an Android/ iOS Developer you will have the following key accountabilities:
Part of a multi-disciplinary agile team
Building Content Tracking SDKs for apps running on Android & Apple Smartphone, Tablet & TV
The example mobile engineer of that team who helps others to gain some basic mobile development skills
Taking ownership of solving problems - your own problems as well as problems the client has while integrating the SDK
Pair programming with your team mates to bring together your skills and knowledge to rapidly build high quality software
Promoting and sharing knowledge around app development, specifically on mobile platforms
Working in an agile fashion and a promoter of agile (iterative) thinking
Now that you know what an Android/ iOS Developer does, what skills, qualifications and experience do you need?
2+ years of experience in engineering software, of which the majority and/or most recent experience is with Android (Java) and iOS (Swift) based development
Packaged your apps using tools like Gradle, Xcode, Cocoapods
An open and collaborative mindset both within and outside your team
Excellent level of either English and German – both written and spoken
It would be a great addition if you have experience with…
The media, advertising or market research industry
Have already published apps to the Google Play Store and Apple App Store before, so you know exactly what those picky review processes will accept and reject in apps
Hybrid and WebApps as well as FireTV Stick, AndroidTV, AppleTV, Chromecast
AWS tools like S3 or Cloudfront
CI/CD pipelines and tools like Bamboo and Bitbucket/Git
Basic Objective-C programming
Basic frontend development of apps
