The Shavers market (combining both Mens and Ladies Shavers) has performed well in the UK according to GfK Retail and Technology; achieving an 8% volume growth on last year with sales of over 4 million units (MAT June 2007 – May 2008).
This growth has been primarily driven by declining prices of almost all product types which is why the market has remained flat in value terms and currently stands a £143 million.
The Mens Shavers market has been hit by price deals and now occupies 59% value of the overall Shavers market - an 8% decline on last year. The performance of Beard Trimmers continues to show rapid growth as they are affordable, versatile products that suit the needs of todays' younger image conscious males. This segment has grown by over 34% compared to the same time last year and accounts for just over £14 million of the overall UK Shavers market.
Within Ladies Hair Removal, the dominance of Epilators continues as they contribute £15 million to the overall category; a growth of 28% on last year. Increasingly the Laser segment is growing in importance and is currently worth over £7 million – an increase of £2 million on the previous year. This highlights that women are more willing to invest more in products that can provide long term results and with the summer holidays now with us, the Female Depilation sector will be one to watch.
