Global climate protection provides opportunities for consumers and for retailers
July 4, 2008 – Climate change represents the big challenge of our time for politics, companies and consumers. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change regards a cut in greenhouse gas emissions of between 25 to 40% in the industrialized countries as being urgently required by 2020. How the consumer can make an active contribution to climate protection was the subject of the GfK 2008 Conference, held on July 4, 2008. The subject was “Climate-Friendly Consumption: Challenge and Opportunity for Manufacturers, Retailers and Consumers“.

July 4, 2008 – In its meeting yesterday, the Administrative Board of GfK-Nürnberg e.V. resolved in favor of the merger of GfK AG with Taylor Nelson Sofres plc (TNS).

Cheating: a crime or a minor misdemeanor
June 27, 2008 – Deceiving people is not an option, according to two thirds of the respondents to a survey on cheating carried out in 19 countries by GfK Custom Research and commissioned by The Wall Street Journal Europe. Unlawful behavior when it comes to tax and business was considered a particularly difficult issue, with around three quarters of respondents identifying this as a major problem in their home countries.

Worsening German consumer mood dampens forecast growth
June 24, 2008 – Spiraling energy costs and the threat of a further massive rise in the price of gas are increasingly dampening the consumer mood in Germany. As a result, the consumer climate indicator for July is forecasting a value of 3.9 points after a revised 4.7 points in June.

Merger of Equals between GfK and TNS to create a major new force in market information
Nuremberg, June 3, 2008 – The Management Board of GfK and the TNS Board are pleased to announce that they have agreed on the terms of a merger of equals (the “Merger”) to create a new, major market information group, to be named GfK-TNS plc (“GfK-TNS”).
