Internships & dissertations

How do I apply for an internship?

If you wish to apply for an internship, position as working student or PhD student, please only use our online application form.

Who are internships intended for?

The internship program in the GfK Group is geared primarily towards university students studying business administration, economics or social sciences, psychology, maths, statistics or IT, who have already successfully completed their pre-degree or intermediate exams.

How far in advance should I apply for an internship?

Your chances are greatest if you apply immediately in response to an advertisement for an internship or for a speculative application, around three to four months ahead of the desired start date. However, we often award internships at short notice, so applying at anytime is never a mistake.

Do you need my full documents or will a short application be sufficient?

The more information you provide in a comprehensive application, the easier it is to identify a specific opening for you which best suits your aims and abilities.

Where are interns used?

There are places for interns in all our business divisions: in our five operating areas of Custom and Panel Research, IT, Financial Controlling and Human Resources. Where you are placed as an intern is based on the focus of your studies, your interests and our current requirements, projects and mentoring capacities.

How are interns selected?

Human Resources prepare a shortlist on the basis of the application documentation and this is generally followed by an interview or telephone call with the specialist department.

How can I apply for a GfK internship abroad?

The decentralized structure of GfK means that you need to send your application direct to the contact person of the foreign branch. A previous internship with GfK in Nuremberg can count as a bonus point in the selection procedure. The addresses of our international subsidiaries and partners are listed on the website under "Jobs/International".

How long should the internship be at least?

The longer the better. You should spend at least two months with the company and are welcome to spend the whole placement semester with us.

What is the remuneration for interns?

At the moment this is 520 Euros a month for interns at foundation course stage and 550 Euros for students in the advanced study stage.

What sort of activities will I carry out as an intern?

An internship with GfK means learning by doing. Interns take on actual tasks and are actively involved in the day-to-day business and in projects. Activities also depend on the duration of your internship.

Where can I find the current internships on offer?

Vacant internships are published regularly in our current job offers.

How can I apply to write a thesis?

If one of the thesis topics in our catalogue (in "Jobs/Germany" on the right hand side) has caught your eye, then please apply for this specific topic. Alternatively, you can write to us to present your own specific idea for your thesis and how we can support you in your writing.

How far in advance should I apply for a doctorate position?

Please apply around 3 to 4 months before your preferred start date. Shorter timescales are possible in individual cases.

Who will supervise my doctorate?

Specialists and managers from the individual GfK departments will be available as supervisors.

What is the remuneration for the thesis?

Depending on the individual agreement, you will receive a bonus or fee when the thesis has been successfully completed.

Where do I write my thesis?

Whether you complete the work here at GfK, at home or at university depends on the subject matter and is agreed individually with you.

Is there a topic list for thesis work?

A list of thesis topics is posted under "Jobs/Germany” on the right hand side. However, we would be happy for you to propose a topic that you have already discussed with your supervising professor.
