GfK TEMAX Turkey - Q4 2009

The star of the year is the final quarter

Turkey Istanbul, 15 February 2010 - Throughout 2009, the Turkish Technical Consumer Goods market showed an unstable trend. This trend is caused by various factors such as the economic crisis, temporary tax reduction in leading sectors, new technology launches and considerable promotional activities by important retailers. After a recovery helped by the temporary tax reduction in Q2 2009, the market then declined in the following quarter.

Following Q3 2009, the market achieved positive growth in all sectors and grew without any help of a temporary initiative proposed by the government in the last quarter of 2009. In this quarter, new international retailers entered the market and current players contributed to the market development by opening new outlets. Finally, the Turkish Technical Consumer Goods Market had a chance to prove its potential as it did two years previously.
