The refrigeration market has been the stand out performer in the home appliances sector in 2014 with value sales increasing 13% to £566million (Jan-Aug14). This represents the best start to the year on record with the refrigeration category now accounting for over a quarter of total white goods sales during this period.
Traditional fridge freezers remain the most popular type, contributing to over 60% of total value sales. New product launches and a number of significant retailer promotions have given this sector an added lift with sales up 13% on last year. Premium side by side fridge freezers are also continuing their upward trend with sales increasing 14% to over £92million. With home entertainment becoming more popular over recent years and the kitchen very much seen as the hub of the home, these aspirational products have firmly re-established themselves as a must-have home appliance. This focus on size and design has contributed to the sustained development of the three door+ market. With average prices far in excess of £1000, consumers appear more than willing to spend big on these eye-catching appliances. This segment has more than doubled over the past three years with value sales rising to £25million.
